The point

Software does not make the home compliant.

The registered manager acting on the audit does. Software makes the walk easier to complete on the floor, harder to skip an item, and faster to turn into evidence. A good tool means nobody back-fills a mock inspection from memory in the office at the end of the week.

One platform, three audits

Where care teams use it.

Mock inspection

CQC compliance audit checklist

Walk the home against the single assessment framework and its quality statements, gathering evidence before the real inspection.

Environment safety

Health and safety audit

Falls, moving and handling, hoists under LOLER, legionella and fire under the RRFSO, recorded as the auditor walks each area.

Infection control

IPC environment audit

Hand hygiene stations, PPE stock, cleaning standards and the environment checked against the code of practice on infections.

The friction

Most audit apps never get used on the floor.

A deputy manager doing a walk-round with residents to attend to is not opening a bespoke app with a fresh login. They use it for a week, then quietly go back to a paper folder and write it up later. The record you complete at the point of observation beats the one you rebuild that evening, every time.

Run audits on WhatsApp

No app install. No training.

Staff use the phone they already have. Text, voice note or photo. The report generates itself, and the group sees every home on one dashboard. Setup to first live workflow usually takes under a week.

Care home audit work is repetitive, high-stakes and spread across every corridor and cupboard in the building. A mock CQC walk this week, an environment safety check next week, an infection control audit the week after. The record for each one has to satisfy a registered manager, a regional quality lead and, if it comes to it, an inspector. So the real question about care home audit software is not which app has the most tick boxes. It is which tool makes the audit get written while the auditor is still on the floor, and gives the group a live view across every home.

The short version

  • Care home audit software covers three common walks: mock CQC quality audits, health and safety environment checks, and infection prevention and control audits.
  • CQC regulates in England; the Care Inspectorate covers Scotland, Care Inspectorate Wales covers Wales, and RQIA covers Northern Ireland. The regulator and framework vary by nation.
  • Most staff never fill in a dedicated app on the floor. They complete it later, from memory, and the evidence suffers.
  • Per-report pricing beats per-seat for a care group, because adding a home, a manager or a bank worker is free.
  • Quickler audits the environment, premises and process. It complements a care management system, it does not replace one, and it is not a clinical record.
  • The audit does not make the home compliant. The registered manager acting on the findings does.

The point

What care home audit software is actually for

A care provider generates a steady stream of internal audits: mock inspections against the regulator's framework, health and safety walks, infection control checks, environment and premises audits, mealtime and dignity observations. Each has its own checklist and its own audience, from the registered manager to a regional quality team to the regulator at inspection. What they share is that the record has to be accurate, timestamped and backed by evidence.

Software does not make a home compliant. The registered manager acting on the findings does. What software does is make the audit easier to complete correctly on the floor, harder to skip an item, and faster to turn into a report and an action plan. That outweighs any feature list. The tool's only job is to make on-the-floor completion the path of least resistance for a manager who is short of time and pulled in ten directions.

The regulator varies

CQC, and the rest of the UK

In England, the Care Quality Commission regulates adult social care under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and the fundamental standards, assessed through the single assessment framework and its five key questions: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The registered manager is the named duty holder.

The rest of the UK differs. The Care Inspectorate regulates in Scotland, Care Inspectorate Wales in Wales, and the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) in Northern Ireland, each with its own quality framework. Quickler lets a firm build the audit around whichever framework applies, rather than hard-coding one nation's checklist. Always check the current guidance for your regulator, and treat this as general information, not legal advice. See the CQC compliance audit checklist for the England detail.

Scope, honestly

Environment and process, not the care record

Quickler audits the environment, the premises and the process. Mock CQC walks, health and safety checks, infection control environment audits, evidence capture with photos. It is the audit and evidence layer that sits alongside your care management system.

It is not a care management system. It does not hold care plans, it is not an electronic medication administration record (eMAR), and it is not a clinical record of any resident. If you need to record medication rounds or personal care, that belongs in your care planning system. Quickler complements that system by capturing the compliance and environment audit that sits around it. Where the two need to reference each other, keep the clinical record as the single source of truth and use Quickler for the audit trail.

Pricing

Per report, not per seat

Most audit apps charge per seat. For a care group that is the wrong shape: the regional manager who reads one report a month pays the same as the deputy who files four a week, and every bank worker or new home you add costs more.

Quickler charges per report, with unlimited users on every bundle. Bundles run from Quickler 50 at 50 pounds a month for 50 reports, up to Quickler 500 at 500 pounds a month for 500 reports. Add as many managers, care staff, bank workers and admins as you like across every home in the group; you pay for the reports you file, not the people who could file them. Pricing is approximate and shifts, so check the current pricing page before you commit.

Questions, answered

What is care home audit software?

It is any tool that helps a manager or auditor record an internal audit and produce a report: mock CQC inspections, health and safety walks, infection control checks, environment and premises audits. Options range from paper folders, to generic audit apps like iAuditor, to conversation-based tools like Quickler that run the workflow over WhatsApp so there is no app to install and the group sees every home on one dashboard.

Does Quickler replace our care management system?

No. Quickler audits the environment, premises and process. It complements a care management system, it does not replace one, and it is not a clinical record. It does not hold care plans or medication records. Keep those in your care planning system and use Quickler for the compliance and environment audit trail around them.

Does it work outside England, where CQC does not regulate?

Yes. CQC regulates in England, but the Care Inspectorate covers Scotland, Care Inspectorate Wales covers Wales and RQIA covers Northern Ireland, each with its own framework. Quickler lets the firm build the audit around whichever framework applies rather than hard-coding one nation's checklist. Check the current guidance for your regulator.

Can I run care audits over WhatsApp?

Yes. Quickler's workflows run over the WhatsApp Business API. The auditor receives each question in their existing WhatsApp chat, replies with text, a voice note or a photo, and the completed report generates automatically. No separate app or login is required, and Quickler manages the WhatsApp Business API account on the firm's behalf.
